February 2007
We've gotten rid of our message board. Come to our MySpace page and send us messages to us or each other there... Thanks to all the emails from Brazil!. We've recently released "Winds take no shape" over there on RIO 8 Records and are really happy about the positive response.
Hello friends. Sorry it has been so long. We've just been taking a break seeing what our lives bring to us individually. See, we've been playing in this band for a very long time and sometimes it's necessary to chill for a second to gather up life's inspirations before plugging away at it again. We are stopping to smell the flowers. We'll let you know what is what as soon as we do. Thanks to all that are still listening!
In the meantime, Simone is playing some new music in her new band with Terri as "Rubies". Get an EP of songs or listen at her website www.simonerubi.com
Dan is always making classy jams under The Sorcerer guise. A blend of Call And Response melodic musical fun, with his own magical sonic vibe-scapes. Please check his website for great sounds. Jordan is keeping it keeping on with Subtle. They play a lot. Go see them, they rule.
Soonish. We'll meet you in the fort.

Hi,
We recorded a track to appear on the Bread tribute "Friends and Lovers" a while back that is now seeing the light of day. Check it out or buy it here
The track we recorded is called "Baby, I'm a want you" and was the initial meeting of Call and Response with Badman Recording Co.'s Dylan Magierek which led to us signing with them. Kings Of Convenience's Erlend Oye, Josh Rouse, Bart Davenport and Eric Shea, Cake, Posies principals Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer and Tarnation's Paula Frazer are among the artists that have also contributed to "Friends and Lovers," a tribute to '70s soft rock act Bread. Due April 12 via Badman Recording Co., the set features 14 tracks recorded exclusively for this release.
Here is the track list for "Friends and Lovers":
 |
"It Don't Matter to Me," Josh Rouse, "Baby I'm a Want You," Call And Response "Games of Magic," Jon Auer "The Guitar Man," Cake "Friends and Lovers," Erlend Oye "Everything I Own," Paula Frazer "Down on My Knees," Ken Stringfellow "Make It With You," Oranger "I Use the Soap," Dave Derby "Last Time," Holy Sons "Too Much Love," Emily Sparks "Look at Me," The Moore Brothers "If," Rachel Goswell "The Goodbye Girl," Eric Shea & Bart Davenport |

Rad review from Popmatters
"It is a masterful effort, taking the most memorable elements of their past work and alchemically changing it to something completely new but no less great for the difference. The band has toned down the twee and popped most of the bubblegum aesthetics. Instead, Winds Take No Shape toys with darker emotions and subtler music, but is no less captivating for the lack of light."
Nice review from the folks at Aquarius Records
"In the three years that have passed since that first full length, they've grown leaps and bounds in the best possible way. Still very sweet, but more like honey rather than sugar...Winds Take No Shape is truly radiant from start to finish, but C.A.R. do save the best for last. The final song "Silhouette" is the loveliest of dreamboats."

Reviews of Winds Take No Shape:
"Drifting in like a San Francisco fog, Call and Response's second album is a magnificent surprise...Songs conjure weird confluences: you might tease out strands of tropicalian Bossa Nova, Laurel Canyon folk, Vini Reilly riverbed, reverbed languor and even Broadcast's spooked tenderness. You could praise individual moments...but it's the overall weave, the daydreamy drift, that impresses. This is a forty-minute swoon of a record: dive into it." - Stephen Troussé from Uncut magazine (4 stars) UNCUT COVER
"Right from the get-go, the album's somber instrumentation is affecting. Simone Rubi and Carrie Clough's lead vocals are as impressive as ever, recalling the dulcet sophistication of Laetitia Sadier, yet they're now underscored by downbeat drumming, subdued bass progressions and sighing harmonies from the rest of the band. Minor chords ever-present, while Farfisas and Moogs linger in the background; "Eclipse" even quivers along on jangly guitar dynamics reminiscent of the mid-'80s Flying Nun scene. It adds up to an unmatched aural serenity, but there's a frightening urgency in the lyrics that lends a disquieting sense to the proceedings." - Splendid Magazine
